See this Chesterfield Tudor home’s exterior overhaul, complete with custom copper touches

For the architects and designers at Mosby Building Arts, enhancing a home’s curb appeal goes beyond slapping on a fresh coat of paint and a new door. A recent exterior renovation in Chesterfield, for instance, embodies their comprehensive designs, with unique touches throughout the space, down to the custom copper gutters.

The owners of the Chesterfield home wanted to update their Tudor-style home, bringing the exterior up to par with the interior design. “The homeowners loved their two-story home,” says Mosby project manager Ken Mitchell, “but the home’s exterior was dated and needed some TLC.”

“The inside was pretty much up-to-date, and we wanted to bring the homeowner’s level of style and great taste to the outdoors,” adds senior designer Laura Powderly. “With a Tudor, there’s a lot of lines and color contrast, so we really wanted to simplify what was going on with a mostly white palette while bringing it to life with custom details.”

The full team of designers, architects, and production crews worked together with the homeowners to update the front entry door and vestibule, garage doors, and exterior finishes. To replace the old Tudor style, the existing masonry and stone were whitewashed and paired with matching wood grain lap siding. The existing garage doors were replaced with two new stately dark walnut insulated steel garage doors to add contrast, along with custom-colored shutters and trim. For both the clients and Powderly, however, the added pops of copper were their favorite design elements. Mosby installed custom-aged real copper sconces in the front vestibule. The design team also incorporated custom factory-finished gutters to give the allusion of faux copper gutters, which would still hold up against the elements. “The new faux copper gutters got many compliments from neighbors,” Mitchell says.

Part of what made the vision come to life, Powderly adds, is that Mosby houses all of its professionals under one roof. “We all work really well together, so when the designers and planners hand off the project to the architects and skilled craftsmen, we know they’re going to come in and knock it out of the park,” says Powderly. “The communication remains very streamlined.”

The team at Mosby handles every aspect of remodeling projects including:

  • Certified designers and licensed architecture to meet your needs and style
  • Highly skilled craftsmen who treat you and your home with respect and courtesy

“Mosby’s team of planners, architects, and skilled craftsmen think about the look of your home as closely as we do about its safety and function,” Mitchell says. “We take care of every part of your home’s exterior, and we back it with a 10-year workmanship warranty.”
